Massachusetts Tax Deductions and Exemptions
Residents of Massachusetts cannot claim a standard deduction on their state income tax return.
Child care expenses may be deductible on the state return along with college tuition if the cost is more than 25 percent of a taxpayer’s state adjusted gross income. You can also claim deductions for your rental and student loan payments. Personal exemptions are also available to Massachusetts residents. The amount available to taxpayers for a personal exemption depending on their filing status.
