Missouri Tax Deductions and the Personal Exemption
Taxpayers in Missouri can claim a personal exemption on their state tax return, but the amount available varies based on their filing status.
- Single filers: $2,100.
- Married filing jointly: $4,200
- Head of household: $4,200.
An additional exemption of $1,200 is available for dependents as well.
Taxpayers in Missouri can also claim a standard deduction if they didn’t itemize their deductions on their federal tax return. Single filers can claim a standard deduction of $6,200 on their state returns. The standard deduction for joint filers is exactly double that at $12,400. Individuals filing as head of household can claim a standard deduction of $9,100. Taxpayers over the age of 65 or those who are blind are eligible to claim a larger standard deduction.
