Ohio tax brackets
For 2024, the first $26,050 of nonbusiness income is not subject to tax. Here’s a look at the current tax rates for tax year 2024 (the taxes you’ll file in 2025):
Ohio Taxable Income | Tax Rate |
---|---|
Up to $26,050 | 0% |
$26,051 – $100,000 | 2.75% |
Over $100,000 | 3.5% |
Many school districts and municipalities in Ohio also leverage an income tax. Their tax percentages max out at 3% and are all assessed at a flat rate.
Ohio tax deductions & personal exemptions
Taxpayers in Ohio cannot claim itemized deductions on their state tax returns. However, filers can claim a personal exemption based on how much they earn.
The more income an individual earns, the smaller the personal exemption amount available. Lower-income workers qualify for a higher personal exemption amount. For example, taxpayers with an adjusted gross income (AGI) of less than $40,000 can claim an exemption of $2,400.
