Nebraska Taxable Income and Deductions

The state of Nebraska taxes the same type of income as the federal government. Taxpayers that contribute to a Nebraska College Savings Plan can subtract those contributions from their total income to calculate their taxable income.

Filers can also claim the standard deduction or federal itemized deductions on their state returns, whichever is largest. That total should not include state and local income taxes.

Here’s a look at the standard deduction amounts per filing status.
