Nebraska taxable income and deductions

The state of Nebraska taxes the same type of income as the federal government. Taxpayers who contribute to a Nebraska College Savings Plan can subtract those contributions from their total income to calculate their taxable income.

Filers can claim the standard deduction or federal itemized deductions on their state returns, whichever is largest. That total should not include state and local income taxes.
