Nebraska taxable income and deductions
The state of Nebraska taxes the same type of income as the federal government. Taxpayers who contribute to a Nebraska College Savings Plan can subtract those contributions from their total income to calculate their taxable income.
Filers can claim the standard deduction or federal itemized deductions on their state returns, whichever is largest. That total should not include state and local income taxes.
Here’s a look at the 2024 Nebraska standard deduction amounts per filing status:
Filing Status | Standard Deduction (not including dependents) |
---|---|
Single or Married Filing Separately | $8,350 |
Married Filing Jointly or Surviving Spouse | $16,700 |
Head of Household | $12,250 |
