    I have been using Tax Act for years and have always bought the Deluxe version in order to upload data from the previous year. What version must I now buy to do that? I don’t see a $12.95 Deluxe version listed.

    I want to get the Online Price guarantee but I am waiting on more information before I can begin my returns. How much time do I have before filing?

    I initially locked in the Plus price guarantee the first day your 30% savings deal came out. Then, I got an email saying I would be able to take advantage of a zero cost fed and zero cost state return, which I also locked in. I still retain both emails. Am I paying or not paying?

  4. I do taxes with my mom & my son. So we file 3 returns. I need to lock in for same price for all of us. Not just one return. How can I do this?

    • Hi Lisa! If you are using any of our Online products you will need to start a new return for each of the returns you would like to e-file and pay separate fees. If you start each return at the same time you will be able to lock in the same price for each. You do not have to complete each return at the same time – that’s the beauty of our Price Lock Guarantee. Whatever price is listed at the time you start your Online returns will be there even if you file later. Thank you!

    I make my income from South Carolina but I live in North Carolina. I have not filed a NC State Income form since 2011 because I have not earned any income in the state of NC. Was notified by NC Department of Revenue that I owe back taxes for 2012 & 2013. Have settled those yrs and also 2014 & 2015. If I use Tax Act On Line will they figure both States even though I don’t receive a W2 from NC?

  8. I locked in the price a couple months ago and was surprised that the pricing for the 2016 taxes have really changed. At first I was pleased that the federal price seemed normal, but was annoyed that the state price seemed to be hidden and had jumped quite a bit. I sent feedback inquiring about the hidden increase, but did not receive a response. Instead of just going with TaxAct this year, I will be shopping around for a better deal.

  9. I am a happy long-time user of TaxAct and recommended it to many people. I was taken by surprise by a recent email from TaxAct. It had three options to choose from and had very sketchy information about each. The middle option seemed to be the right one at the time. Since then, I have been wondering if I should have chosen the most expensive option (Premium, I believe) instead. Asking us to make a choice early on based on limited information does not seem to be a good way. I hope I will have a chance to change it at a later time.

  12. I tried to enter the basic information on the 2016 on-line Tax Act, but if I exited the program and signed back on the information previously entered was not saved. Is the “save” feature only operative after 1/1/2017?

  14. I’ve been using TaxAct for years and plan to continue doing so. One thing I’ve found confusing in the past is your pricing for state returns when they’re filed in conjunction with a federal return for which I’ve opted to pay for the premium federal return. Is the price of ONE state return included, or is it extra? And how much does the state return cost? Maybe it’s just me, but due to my confusion on this point, I’m never really sure what the final cost is going to be. You might want to look for ways to make it a little clearer. Thanks for the opportunity for feedback. You don’t really need to publish this on your webpage. (In any case, you’re stuck with me as a user. :-) )

To answer your question, a state return is an additional fee with our Plus and Premium Online editions. Our Free Online Edition allows you to file one Federal Form 1040EZ or 1040A and one state return for free. If you purchase a Download/Desktop Edition, one state return is included in our Plus and Premium Editions, however you will have to pay an additional fee to e-file it. For the Free Download Edition, you will have to pay an extra fee for a state return. We will definitely continue to work on making this as clear as possible.   15. Seems strange that when I went to file my 2015 taxes last week that was not the case. When I entered my information there was a package deal that included state returns. Access was denied and the price was now $24.95 each for Fed and for each of 2 state returns. I called customer support and was told no deals were available so I paid the Fed 24.95 to get access and print and mail my return to get my refund. Where was that guarantee?

    • Hi Allan, The Price Lock Guarantee only applies to the products for the current tax year, which is why it was not available when you purchased a product for TY15.   16. What is the main different from the Desktop and Online programs ?

    • Hi David! There is no difference in how the product works or in any of its features between the Desktop and Online versions. However, with the Desktop version, you can’t e-file your return, so you will have to send your return to the IRS in the mail. Also, as mentioned in the post, our Price Lock Guarantee only applies to our Online products as with our Desktop/Download versions you have to pay for the product prior to starting your return.
