How to File a Tax Extension [Infographic]

Do you need more time in filing your income tax return?

Don’t sweat it – it’s easy to get a tax extension to file your return.

TaxACT supports the completion of Form 4868 Automatic Extension of Time to File U.S. Income Tax Return for your federal return, as well as any necessary extension forms for your state, if applicable.

Form 4868 must be filed by the regular due date of the return.

Please note that filing an extension ONLY extends the time to file your return and does not extend the time to pay any tax due.

To avoid late payment penalties and interest you must estimate what tax will be due and pay that when you file the extension form.

The following Infographic walks you through 4 simple steps to file a tax extension with TaxACT for free.

An insurer, or insurance carrier, is a company selling the insurance; the insured, or policyholder, is the person or entity buying the insurance policy. The amount of money to be charged for a certain amount of insurance coverage is called the premium. Risk management, the practice of appraising and controlling risk, has evolved as a discrete field of study and practice.

There are two types of tax extension forms: IRS Tax Form 4868 is for personal tax extensions and IRS Tax Form 7004 is for business tax extensions. Do you know which tax extension form you need to file? Is your business a sole proprietorship, a partnership, an S-corporation, or an LLC? The type of business entity you have will determine which tax extension form you should use. Some business owners can file a single tax extension request for both their business and personal tax returns!
